The best historical place in Orsha - is castle on a peninsula in the city center. It was here that Orsha began about 1000 years ago. The first buildings on this settlement were of course wooden, and the first stone parts of the future castle began to be built during the reign of Grand Duke Vytautas. For a long history Orsha Castle found many sieges and battles, which eventually led to its decline. Probably after the serious destruction during the Russian-Polish war of the 17th century, the fortress no longer performed its defensive functions.
