M1 - it's a motorway Belarus, along which the main flow of local and transit transport goes. There are on the main highway of the country and its attractions, one of which bison figure at the mark Minsk-Brest, 117th kilometer.
The history of this huge monument (for a moment, its weight is about 70 tons) began in the early 2000s. A XNUMX-meter bison was installed on the “Olympic” at the initiative of an official from Brest, who saw similar decisions in Spain. It is interesting that bison were made in Pinsk at the shipyard. The process took about 40 days, and for transportation, the figure was divided into 11 parts. Further assembly was already done on site. Such an unusual work was commissioned for Dozhinki 2003 in Pruzhany.
At the end of 2022, the bison began to be updated: they replaced part of the metal sheets, drew a contour, and also added illumination to the eyes (visible only in the dark).
Today bison on the M1 highway - this is already a cult attraction and a landmark for all travelers that the border of the Minsk and Brest regions has already been crossed.
The figure stands in front of the gas station "Tatneft", the nearest settlement is the village Petkovichi. The most convenient way to see and photograph the bison is when you drive towards Baranovichi. It is definitely not worth crossing the M1 expressway for this.
Not far from the unusual monument is one of the oldest churches in Belarus in the village of Ishkold. I also recommend visiting ruins of the Obukhovichi estate in Golovtsy, on the other side of the road.
