One of the sights of Grodno is the building of the former Khreptovichi Palace in which it is located today Museum of the History of Religion. The construction of this Grodno residence of an old magnate family began in the middle of the 18th century, and the likely customer was Karol Litovor Khreptovich.
In 1780 the palace was taken over by Anthony Tyzengauz, a prominent Grodno reformer, politician and educator. Under him, the building was rebuilt and expanded, for these works Anthony invited the architect Martin Knakfus, who was just working on his palace in Vilnius. However, already in 1791, the owner changed - the building was bought for solid money Franciszek Muchinsky. True, and he quickly decides to sell this palace. At the beginning of the 19th century, representatives of the Lithuanian family become the owners Lyakhnitsky.
Over the long history of the building, of course, it was repeatedly rebuilt and reconstructed after military destruction and fires. From the original version built by the Khreptovichs, little has survived to this day. The best preserved facade and its design. Particular attention should be paid to the coat of arms of the city of Grodno above the entrance (the deer of St. Hubert).
Khreptovichi Palace refers to the style of the early classicism with baroque elements. It is a brick, two-story building closed around the perimeter and having its own courtyard paved with stone.
After the Lyakhnitskys, for some time the palace was owned by the Svyatopolk-Chetvertinskys (the same stomach). The house was used as an apartment building and most likely sold again at the turn of the 20th century. After the end of the Second World War, the battalion of the MPVO was located here, then the construction technical school and the school of the FZO, the school.
