Finding a hotel for a solo trip to Dubai can be quite an adventure. On one hand, there are hundreds of luxury and unique hotel complexes in the city, but on the other hand, their prices can reach up to $500 per night. Additionally, most hotels in the city are located in one of two areas: along the metro line, which is about a 30-minute walk from the bay, or near the water, where the hotels are more like resorts and often come with a price tag that may not be friendly to budget travelers.

A good option for staying in Dubai is booking a room in a chain hotel near a metro station and bus stop, such as the Holiday Inn Express. Hotels of this type always offer a certain level of service; they provide a continental breakfast and often include a shuttle service.

Why is it important to choose a hotel with convenient logistics? If you don’t plan on using taxis, you’ll need to travel long distances, and walking in the hot Dubai weather isn’t the most pleasant activity (especially during the summer months). The closest metro station to the Holiday Inn is Business Bay, just a 6-minute walk away. From here, you can easily reach major attractions like the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall (one stop), visit other beaches and Palm Island, or head to the airport or bus station for services to Abu Dhabi.

The room at the Holiday Inn Express is quite typical: about 23 square meters, with a large bed, a separate sofa, a work space, and a TV. The bathroom is spacious, with a shower, hairdryer, and a set of basic toiletries.

The downside is the lack of a balcony. While not everyone needs one in hot Dubai, it may be inconvenient if you want to dry your clothes after a trip to the beach. Wi-Fi works quickly and efficiently, and the room is cleaned daily—towels are replaced, the bed is made, and bottled water is provided. For breakfast, you’ll find classic American hotel offerings with an Oriental twist, including flatbreads, falafel, and sabji.

There is also underground parking available for hotel guests, which will be important for those traveling by car (renting a car is advisable in the UAE). The hotel also features a gym, a restaurant, and a spa.

In Dubai, I recommend visiting the desert and exploring the unique zoo, The Green Planet.
