Our planet contains a vast number of inexplicable phenomena, whether these are unusual natural events, mysterious structures, strange creatures, or terrain anomalies. There is even a branch of science called Cryptozoology, which is dedicated to the search for legendary or seemingly non-existent animals, including those that have already gone extinct. In this article, we will provide examples of some of the most famous fantastic beasts that have ever been seen by humans and even captured in photos or videos.
Loch Ness Monster (Nessie)
One of the most famous mysterious creatures on Earth, the Loch Ness Monster, has been reported by numerous eyewitnesses. Almost all of them describe seeing part of the creature’s body rising above the water, and only the fortunate few claim to have seen its long, elongated neck with a small head.
There are several photos and videos that purport to show Nessie, but almost all of them are blurry and raise skepticism among critics. The most famous image is a photograph of what appears to be a fin, taken by an expedition led by Reines in 1975. Some researchers suggest that the creature could be a plesiosaur, which became extinct about 70 million years ago. However, it’s possible that some dinosaurs managed to survive. Similar creatures have been reported in places like Chesapeake Bay (where it is called Chessie), Lake Storsjö in Sweden (known as Storsjöodjuret), Lake Champlain in New York (called Champ), and other locations.
Bigfoot (Yeti)
This mysterious creature is reported to inhabit forests and mountainous regions around the world. Interestingly, almost everyone who claims to have seen Bigfoot describes it in a very similar way: standing about 2 to 2.5 meters tall, covered in long brown, red, or white hair, and with an unpleasant odor. Most often, large footprints or handprints are discovered, and some claim to have heard the Yeti’s distinctive howl.
A significant amount of evidence in the form of photos and videos suggests that the mystery of Bigfoot may soon be solved. We might discover whether these creatures are the missing link in human evolution, the ancestors of early humans who stopped evolving at some stage, or perhaps a new type of primate entirely.

The Mothman first appeared in late 1966 in West Virginia. Eyewitnesses described it as a creature resembling a bird, standing about 2 to 2.5 meters tall, with a wingspan of 3.5 meters, glowing eyes, and gray skin.
The Mothman was reported to reach speeds of up to 130 km/h and was said to prey on large dogs. Some legends even claim that the Mothman has the ability to predict disasters and is considered an omen of misfortune. For example, the creature was seen before the tragic collapse of the Silver Bridge in Point Pleasant, which claimed the lives of around 46 people.
Chupacabra
Those who have seen the Chupacabra describe it as the size of an ordinary dog, capable of making long jumps. It has red eyes, hairy skin, a forked tongue like a snake, sharp fangs, and spines or feathers along its back. The Chupacabra is known to feed on blood, and numerous attacks on livestock have been attributed to it.
This creature is often mentioned in the mystical folklore of Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the southern United States.
Mermaids
Creatures with the body of a woman and the tail of a fish appear in the legends of Ancient Egypt, Greece, the Far East, and China. However, mermaid sightings are most commonly reported along the coasts of Scotland. Interestingly, each eyewitness describes mermaids differently.
Some see them as beautiful women with black hair and pale skin, while others describe small humanoid creatures with webbed hands. The one constant feature is their fish tail. In recent years, numerous photos and videos have surfaced claiming to show evidence of mermaids, and some of these have even convinced some of the most hardened skeptics.
