Vetka town, museum and interesting facts

Vetka township - a small and well-groomed, cozy city with a great history. It is located in the Gomel region, just half an hour from Gomel - and you are in Vetka. The origin of its name is still unknown. Locals or guides will tell you only one of the many legends. But what is known for sure is that it was founded by "refugees from Russia."

Vetka Museum of Folk Art

The ancestors of the residents of Vetka are Muscovites. At the end of the 17th century, having fled Moscow from persecution, the Old Believers did not go far to the west, they settled 15 km from the Russian border, on the land of the governor of Khaletsky. Having formed their settlement, yesterday's Muscovites called the central square of the city Krasnaya. Curious why?)

On this very Red Square stands today a small but amazing building. It contains Vetkovsky Museum Old Believer icons, books and towels.

This museum has no equal anywhere in the world! At the beginning of the century, this building belonged to the Gomel merchant Groshikov. In Vetka, he had a manufactory and often came there.

Museum in Vetka

And this building is also interesting because it was built for Groshikov by the famous Gomel architect Shabunevsky. A similar building, all for the same merchant, Stanislav Shabunevsky built in Gomel, on Bauman Street, only larger in size.

Why it is worth visiting Vetka and its museum:

- close to Gomel (easy to combine with a visit to the regional center);

- the opportunity to get acquainted with the unique museum of Old Believer icons, books, utensils - the collection of exhibits is large, everything is perfectly preserved;

– interesting, informative excursions.
