Vidzy-Lovchinsky - this is a village a couple of kilometers from the urban village of Vidzy, located almost on the very border Belarus and Lithuania. In chronicles, these places are mentioned as early as the end of the 16th century, but under the name Lovishche, owned by Narushevichi. The main attraction is the former Manor of the Wawrzetski familyand then kind Mineyko, about which I will tell you in more detail.

The manor house is one-story, rather modest in size, stands on a high stone plinth. The main entrance has obvious features of classicism architecture, it is distinguished by a portico on four high columns made of wood.

The park side looks much more interesting with an arched stone gallery completed with an attic. Initially, this facade was a wooden porch, which was replaced in 1900 with a new two-level terrace according to the project. Tadeusz Rostvorovsky.

Abandoned estates of the Vitebsk region

This part of the estate, in terms of architecture, is more likely to pseudo-renaissance. The upper arcade is decorated with semi-columns with pilasters, the lower one without decorative elements.

On both sides of the arcade gallery there are stairs leading to the embankment.

The general condition of the estate is deplorable and is clearly deteriorating every year.

The basement is a massive basement with utility rooms, perhaps some of them were also used as housing.

If you wish, you can look inside the former estate. Nothing authentic could be seen, the years of Soviet use did not pass without a trace.

From the ends of the estate there were also entrances made in the post-war period. Unfortunately, the wooden stairs have already fallen apart.

The last official owner of the estate was Vladislav Mineyko. After 1939, the estate in Vidzakh-Lovchinsky was nationalized. From 1965 to 2006, a local school functioned within the walls of the manor house.

And would a manor house be here originally?

It is quite possible that in fact Manor Wawrecki-Mineiko was slightly to the right. In the old photograph from 1910, it is clearly seen that a completely different building dominates in the foreground - with a large portico on five stone columns.

The book Aftanazy Roman “Dzieje rezydencji na dawnych kresach Rzeczypospolitej” contains information that the building was listed as a “bakery” and served for household needs.

It is possible that the Mineyko family began to use the outbuilding (officer) for the main manor house. After all, the view and the park are better there, besides, the original manor house is located in a lowland and was probably colder.

Manor Vidzy Lovchinsky indirectly connected with the historical events of the late 18th century. The estate belonged Tomasz Wawrzecki, a close friend and successor of Tadeusz Kosciuszko. It was Lieutenant General Tomasz Wawrzecki who became the head of the rebel forces in the autumn of 1794. (approx. after the capture of Kosciuszko)

There are many different outbuildings on the homestead territory, most of which are abandoned and in poor condition. Gate posts and fences are visible, the park and some rare trees have been preserved. Once upon a time, one of the first medical sanatoriums with thermal baths worked in these parts.

The Wawrecki Manor stands on the shore of the lake, on the opposite side from the center of Vidzy-Lovchinski village. It will be more convenient to get to it along the road, which is located near the old tavern, a fork at the very beginning of the village. Below is the location on the map:

On the way to the estate, you can see ruins of a Catholic chapel from 1861. In Vidzy themselves there is a beautiful neogothic church и Old Believers Church.
