One of the oldest cities in Belarus – Tours, rich in history and events. The city has several interesting tourist sites, among which the leading place is occupied by Turov settlement “Castle Hill”. There is a museum complex with the ruins of a 12th century church and a monument to Cyril of Turov. Anyone can get into the historical and archaeological complex “Ancient Turov” for a fee (entrance ticket - 2 rubles).
Inside the tent you can see the foundation of a stone temple, which, according to historians, was not inferior St. Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk. The possible reason for the destruction of this church sounds surprising - the echoes of an earthquake in the Carpathians.
Among the museum exhibits there is a model of Turov with a visualization of the city from the 12th century. Here, not only the church, but also the stone tower attracts attention.
The exhibition in Turov is really interesting. The collection began to take shape in the post-war years; there are plenty of unusual and antique items here. For example, here is a sarcophagus made of a rare and expensive stone of a dark pink color; such burials indicate the high status of the deceased.
On the walls there are many illustrations and paintings with views of Turov, which help to better imagine what this city looked like in its heyday.
Archaeological excavations and studies of the settlement were carried out in the 60s, at which time the ruins of an ancient church were found.
In front of the entrance to the museum there is a 7-meter monument to Kirill of Turovsky. It was installed on May 11, 1993, designed by the architect Nikolai Lukyanchik, and the sculpture itself was made by Mikhail Inkov.
