18-19 June, already for the 5th time, the traditional Kupala folk festival "Holy Sun - 2022". The venue remained unchanged - the territory of the museum complex "Dudutki". The festival included a rich musical part, the reconstruction of ancient Kupala traditions and rituals, as well as a fire festival. Of course, there were various interactives, more details in this report, photos are attached.
Musical part
This year I want to talk more about music and performers. The organizers put together a really great lineup, all the bands fit the format of the festival as much as possible and left a good impression.
The concert part of the Holy Sun began at about 16:00, opened by the group Khmelny Virthat play medieval music. Unfortunately, their performance was not caught.
Further, the Gomel girl played on the stage Ban-Zhvirba group, which, surprisingly, I had not heard before, but it was a pleasant surprise. They play pretty colorful folk-rock with a mixture of folk songs.
To get to know the group:
The third on the stage were the musicians of the folk-rock ensemble Tuteyshaya Gentry. Their music is a tempestuous mixture that is full of gimmicks, bright vocals, folk instruments and an old-timey spirit. For me personally, the group was one of the favorites of this evening.
Listen to the band's tracks:
By the end of the performance of the Sarmatian rockers, the audience had already swayed a little and were ready to listen KaS group. Cycling enthusiasts and travel in Belarus, know the band's tracks quite well, and energetic music has lifted even the laziest.
One of the most popular tracks is “Rovar“, By the way, not so long ago a clip was released on it, if you haven’t seen it yet, then it’s below:
Having stormily seen off the KaS group, the audience enthusiastically met the folk musicians PAWA, which are well known to lovers of Kupala and thematic festivals.
For those who are not familiar with the work of the group:
PAWA closed the first block of the musical part, after them it was the turn of fire and pyrotechnics at Sveta Sonets.
As part of this part of the festival, proven and new teams working in the fire show genre performed. There was a lot of fire, fireworks, acrobats, dancing and lighting effects.
After the “fire” block, it was the turn of the team guda.
The audience took the folk dances very well and actively participated. Perhaps the performance of this group was the peak of the entire festival. In fact, this is right, after all, the Kupalle holiday, I wanted an accompanying atmosphere with traditions and original culture.
Before the guests of the festival set off in a torchlight procession to the banks of the Ptich River, another group performed, the heaviest, for those who had strength left - aquamorta. (for review, one of the clips of the group below)
Closer to 2 o'clock in the morning Kupala bonfires blazed. People danced and sang songs, the finale of the festival turned out to be beautiful and a little mystical.
