Stela and museum in Minsk
In 1974 the capital Belarus was awarded the title of a hero city and in order to perpetuate the title rightfully deserved by the city and all its inhabitants, the government decided to create a monumental complex with a symbolic name "Minsk - Hero City". Stela in Minsk has become a traditional place for visiting all the newlyweds who come to the memorial complex to lay flowers, thereby thanks to the heroes who defended Minsk. When visiting the memorial complex, be sure to go up to the stele and look into the museum.
The obelisk was opened in 1985. The date was dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Great Victory. The sculptor became the creator of the 45-meter obelisk Zankovich Valentin. He embodied the architects' idea to create a laconic simple form, but at the same time evoking feelings of grandeur and awe. At the peak of the stele is the star of the hero city, framed by a laurel branch.
The stele itself rises on a man-made hill. At the foot of the obelisk there is a marble plaque with the Decree on conferring the title of Hero City immortalized on it. Minsk and a woman personifying the image of the Motherland with fanfares in her hands raised high. Immediately behind the stele, completing the monumental complex, stands Belarusian Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War.
The building of the Museum of the Great Patriotic War itself is very strict. Sharp corners, gray concrete and glass. Designers, engineers and architects approached the matter responsibly: an atmosphere of solemnity and respect is immediately felt.
All equipment of the exposition was in real battles and after restoration was transferred to the museum.
The creators of the museum were not limited to combat situations. A collective image of the village on the front line is also presented:
Inspection of the museum expositions ends with the hall 10 - "Hall of Peramogi", - where, more than ever, one feels pride and gratitude to those thanks to whom we have a peaceful sky above our heads.
