On the territory of modern Belarus you can see hundreds of different estates. Unfortunately, many of these manor complexes are partially abandoned or even completely destroyed. Often, only a few outbuildings remain from the former gentry buildings. So it happened with the estate of the family Domeiko in the village Calico. From the large-scale estate, which in some sources is called the whole castle, only 4 columns and the basement have survived. In spite of this Calico interesting to visit, as the village has a well-preserved park and a huge backyard gate.
At the turn of the 17th century, a fortified manor house built by the family Bzhostovsky (they are also related to the construction church in Mosar).
Closer to the second half of the 18th century, the calicoes were sold by the Bzhostovskys to the Domeyko family, with whose name the estate will be associated.
Today, the main attraction in the village is, of course, the monumental three-tiered brama.
The first tier of the gate is two entrances and the arcade itself, the second is a small rectangular room. According to rumors, there was a clock with chimes that told the time to local residents (see how they looked in the bottom photo). The third tier is a small tower with a bell tower.
According to the architecture, the gate in Sitzah belongs to the Baroque style, erected at the beginning of the 18th century.
More recently, it was possible to climb the spiral staircase to the top of the tower, but probably for security reasons, the passage was blocked with bars.
It is known that the manor house (the variant laid by the Bzhostovskys) was destroyed by fire in 1830. It is not known under what circumstances and reasons this happened, but in fact only high stone columns survived from the house.
The new estate Domeyki was erected in the depths of the park. In 1939, the last representatives of this family were dispossessed and left the country. One of the brightest representatives of Domeiko - Ignatius Ippolitovich (geologist-geographer, rector of the University of Chile).
Another interesting attraction in Sitzah is a giant oak tree (called the “Patriarch”), which, according to some sources, has already over 500 years.
It is difficult even to imagine trees of this age on the territory of Belarus (*the oldest tree is king-oak "Pozhezhinskiy" in Romatovo, Brest region). Locals say that there used to be an information sign, but on my arrival (October 2020), it was gone.
There are several abandoned buildings on the territory of the former Domeyko estate. Those made of rubble stone date back to the 19th century, with the exception of a few buildings clearly built in Soviet times from brick.
At 100 meters from the gate, if you move along the road, you can see a part of the former estate - the ruins of a building called "Kashary".
It will not be difficult to find the former estate: exit the P86 highway onto the local road H2611, the gate is immediately on the right side.
Not far from these places worth a visit church in Parafyanovo. A little bit farther - porplischewhere there is an old wooden church и catholic church... Other sights of Belarus on the map.
