Walk through the eternal city. Travel to Rome

The decision to move is never easy. That's Ekaterina Ishmyakova took a long time to decide, but still left Minsk and went to conquer the capital of Italy. A city in which someone gets lost, and someone finds himself. Here Ekaterina began to develop as a photographer, and now she shares the flowery Rome and the beauty of Italy in her instagram. Well, she shared with us her favorite places and tips for everyone who wants to recover in the city where all roads lead.

Rome is a living organism. He is like a young man, with whom you can endlessly be angry, but it is not possible not to love him.

I moved to Rome less than a month 3 years ago, I can’t even believe that it’s been so long, and that so little time has passed at the same time. Prior to that, I regularly visited the eternal city for 2 years.

My decision to change the country was not spontaneous. For example, in order to mature for this move, it took me a long 7 years from the first visit.

Basically an escape from Minsk I bore a long 28 years (well, plus or minus, given the fact that I, of course, don’t remember the first couple of years). I drove to a completely empty place. Preliminarily chose a university, prepared and entered.

I am very grateful to everyone who met me, especially in the last year before moving. Someone helped with advice, someone just helped not to give up, because moving is very scary.

Given that I have a residence permit for study, I do not have the opportunity to work full-time. So for 2 years I worked with an organization that rents apartments for tourists, settled and evicted them, such a mobile reception. For some reason, I decided to finish this work, and now I am developing in the field of photography. I am a photographer and I love it.

Certainly, Rome - It's not just a city. Rome is a living organism. He is like a young man, with whom you can endlessly be angry, but it is not possible not to love him. You forgive him everything.

Unfortunately, Rome is sloppy, chaotic and terribly unorganized. Living here is a big challenge.

But if you overcome them, then many secrets of this incredible city are revealed to you. And to be more prosaic, it is difficult to get used to the garbage on the street, a huge number of people, poorly functioning transport and incredible bureaucracy.

Tips and life hacks for travelers

I strongly advise you not to go in the summer. (July, August) - very hot and you will not get real satisfaction from this city. You will live from shade to shade, and because of the scorching sun, you will not be able to enjoy all the beauty.

And, of course, do not forget that in a cafe at the counter, coffee and cornetto are often cheaper than at the table.

Keep in mind that a normal Internet (no matter how strange it may sound in our time) is very difficult to find. And if you come to hunt for photos near the main attractions (such as the Colosseo, Panteon and Fontana di Trevi), then you will have to run to them with the first rays of the sun, and I'm not kidding.

Also, do not try to eat in a cafe right under a significant monument, because you will overpay for the view, and the food will most likely disappoint you.

I recommend the Trastevere area - there you can choose a place for every taste.

Also remember that many good places "for locals" work on a schedule (for example, lunch 12-15).

11 things you should definitely do and try in Rome

  1. Required! Wake up with birds singing and go fall in love with the city while there are no people, it's not hot outside and there is magical light everywhere (you can take a photographer with you).
  2. Then enjoy the magical aroma of pastries and coffee, sit in a noisy cafe, watching the locals wake up.
  3. Try gelato in one of the best gelateria: La Romana, Del Teatro, Giolitti.
  4. To fall in love with Trevi Fountain (the largest fountain in Rome).
  5. Get lost in the streets of Rome, and then accidentally go to one of the Monuments and gasp in surprise and amazement.
  6. Take a bottle of wine and fruit and go to meet the sunset on the hill Pincio or Janiculum.
  7. Do not be afraid to look into the numerous courtyards of the Roman palazzo (Roman palaces), because you can find a lot of interesting things in them.
  8. Have a picnic in the park Villa Borghese or Villa Pamphili.
  9. And if you find yourself in Rome during the artichoke season, be sure to try them! And in general, try to take seasonal products. This can be clarified with the waiter.
  10. Last but not least, feel free to visit the many churches and basilicas. And leave for a snack St. Peter's Basilicaso you get the most aesthetic pleasure.
  11. Oh, and if you are in Rome not for the first time or for a long enough time, then you will be able to please its surroundings. Take note of the town Tivoli, lakes Lago Nemi or Lago Albano.

How to feel like a local?

Locals do not often spend time near the main attractions, but they love the parks, which I have already written about. Mostly on weekends they run away from the city or go with their family to such park villas.

Local youth love to hang out in the area Trastevere in Piazza Trilussa or near Bar San Calisto. I also really love this area for its beauty, authenticity that has not yet completely disappeared, narrow streets and ivy on the houses. And until the end of summer, there are many open cafes along the Tiber River. I also suggest not to miss the opportunity and go to see some movie in the open air.

But these are bonuses if you decide to come in the summer. And so I advise you to visit the eternal city at another time, then you can slowly plunge into its chaotic atmosphere and imagine how much the walls of numerous architectural monuments could see. Goosebumps, right?

And do not hesitate to smile, say hello and thank, and then Rome will open many doors for you!
