Pinsk St. Barbarian Monastery It was first mentioned in the first half of the 16th century, when Prince Feodor Yaroslavich of Pinsk presented the nearby villages of Vysokoye, Goltsy, Duboi, Lisotsk and the Piskalovshchina courtyard to the monastery. The buildings of that time were mostly built of wood.
At the end of the 16th century, a new monastery church was erected here, which was named after the Holy Great Martyr Barbara.
After the adoption Union of Brest the monastery was transferred Order of the Bernardines (pp. 17th century). But already in 1839, the Pinsk St. Barbarian Monastery again returned to Orthodoxy.
Of the buildings included in the monastery complex, it is worth noting St. Barbara's Church (St. Barbara's Cathedral), which was erected by the Bernardine monks at the end of the 18th century in the Baroque style.
It was originally built as a Bernardine church of Michael the Archangel. The church belongs to the type of the simplest single-nave and towerless temples. Throughout its existence, it has been constantly modified, rebuilt, supplemented with new architectural elements.
At the beginning of the 19th century, a two-tier belfry and a monastery building were erected near the church next to the temple in the classicism style.
One of the most famous and revered miraculous icons in Belarus is located in the St. Barbara Church - the Mother of God Hodegetria of Jerusalem, the date of creation of which dates back to the end of the 15th - beginning of the 16th centuries. In addition to it, there are other holy relics that were created in the 18th century - the icon of the Mother of God "Tenderness", the icon of the Three Hierarchs, the Spas Pancreator (1776), the image of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the image of the Trinity and others.
Also in this church are stored a particle of the relics of St. Barbara. Every year, thousands of pilgrims and believers visit the temple to bow to the shrine. After all, it is believed that Saint Barbara protects people from death without repentance and communion. She is able to help in resolving family conflicts and problems, heal from depression. In addition, Saint Barbara is the patroness of travelers and travelers.
Pinsk St. Barbarian Monastery is included in the state list of historical and cultural values of the Republic of Belarus” and is an object of historical and cultural heritage of republican significance.
Now the monastery has a library and a Sunday school.
