In Belarus there are not only architectural monuments, but also natural monuments, one of such objects is “Nyavestsin stone“. It is located in the Oshmyany district, near the village Ogorodniki and, as often happens with us, the unusual boulder is overgrown with a variety of legends and stories.

Bride's Stone in Ogorodniki

There is an assumption that the stone was brought to our lands by a glacier from the Åland Islands more than 130 years ago. However, there is also a more popular version, with a touch of mysticism, which takes us back to the time when our ancestors believed in pagan gods.

Nyavestsin stone

According to this legend, a young girl could not survive the loss of her beloved, who drowned in the lake, and rushed after him. Over time, the water dried up and residents of nearby villages found this very stone at the bottom. The locals thought and decided that the soul of the young woman was preserved in the boulder and named it the Bride Stone.

The territory with dense forest and the Oshmyanka River only contributed to these legends and young girls began to increasingly look into the beautiful Rambakovsky moat to hang a ribbon on a tree and touch the stone.

Kalyar shavings

It is believed that such a gesture can help you find true love, a groom, or even conceive a child, such is the Ashmyany legend.

The ancient boulder received the status of “Natural Monument” back in 1996. Its dimensions are impressive, and its weight, according to rough estimates, is more than 70 tons.
