The unique sight of the Oshmyany region is Church of Saints Peter and Paul in the village Boruny . The temple that can be seen today was erected in the middle of the 18th century on the site of a wooden Uniate church. Building designed by an architect Alexander Osikevich has style features Vilna Baroque and some rococo elements. It is a three-aisled basilica with a semicircular apse.
By 1793, a monastery building was erected next to the church. Corps of the Order of the Basilians. There was a 6-grade school at the monastery, where some future famous writers and public figures studied. Among which, for example, Khodko, Korsak, Odynets.
After the defeat of the uprising of 1830, the Catholic monastery was closed. A little later, an Orthodox school began to function on its basis. In September 1881, the Peter and Paul Church was re-consecrated in Church of the Holy Mother of Godand the building itself has been renovated.
Then, in the 20s of the last century, the Belarusian teacher's seminary was located within the walls of the monastery. The director and leader of which was the educator Simon Alexandrovich Rak-Mikhailovsky (leader of the national liberation movement of Belarus). Since 1922, the temple has again been operating as the Church of Saints Peter and Paul.
It is noteworthy that the composition of this church lacks the symmetry inherent in such buildings. However, it is quite possible that this is the result of the reconstruction of the temple in the second half of the 19th century.
The Church of Saints Peter and Paul houses a unique shrine - Borun Icon of the Mother of God. It is believed that it is miraculous, and the time of creation and reprint dates back to the middle of the 18th century.
