Belarus rich in historical monuments. Different eras, different styles. A prominent representative of the Baroque style is Church of St. Michael the Archangellocated in Novogrudok.
A monument with a difficult fate and history. Governor ON Christopher Khodkevich, built in Novogrudok in 1624 church of the saint Jacek made of wood, for the Dominican monks who settled in the city.
A century later, a stone temple was erected in its place. True, in 1751 it suffered a sad fate - it was almost completely destroyed by fire. After the restoration, the church was consecrated in honor of Saint Archangel Michael.
A school operated at the church, it was run by Dominican monks. At the beginning of the 19th century, iconic personalities studied there for Belarus - Adam Mickiewicz and Jan Chechot.
In 1831, the church in Novogrudok was rebuilt after a fire. During this period, the temple was transformed and acquired elements of architecture of late classicism.
The monastery was closed in 1853, and the church became a parish church. The monastery premises began to be used for the needs of the zemstvo court.
In 1948, the church was taken away from the parishioners to be used as a store and furniture warehouse. It was not restored at all and gradually collapsed. In 1976, another fire broke out. For a long 10 years, the temple was waiting for its restoration. In 1993 it was returned to parishioners.

The temple is popular with tourists no less than other sights of Novogrudok, such as Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, Novogrudsky castle.
