Among the main and popular attractions Nesvizh it’s easy to get lost in lesser-known ones, for example, such objects include the former Church of St. Catherine. The temple was built at the Bernardine monastery, which was founded under Radziwill “The Orphan” at the end of the 16th century. However, only a heavily rebuilt building has survived to this day, but its foundation definitely remembers the church of 1822, and maybe even earlier variations.
In 1864, the Bernardine monastery in Nesvizh was liquidated, and it was decided to convert the church into an Orthodox church. In 1870, the work was completely completed; below is an image of what the temple looked like at that time.
In the post-war years, the church was finally closed, all religious attributes were dismantled, and by 1950 it was already difficult to recognize a historical object in this building.
Until the early 2000s, the building was used for the needs of a local club, and then simply mothballed. Now the object stands waiting in the wings and its future fate. There is potential here, the location is excellent, the condition of the building is quite satisfactory. Perhaps someday there will be a person who can “revive history.”
You can find this landmark of Nesvizh not far from the historical center, the landmark is the corner of Geysika Street and 17th September Street, below is the point with a mark on the map:
What else is worth seeing in the city? Check out the city town hall, there is an interesting one next door craftsman's house, and of course Palace of the Radziwills.
