At the entrance to the village Goloshevo, Vitebsk region, pay attention to the massive stone cross near Lake Glubokoe.

Stone cross in the village of Goloshevo

Similar crosses, but of different periods, can be found throughout Belarus. It is almost impossible to know their exact age or the time when they were installed. Most often, in determining the age, they are repelled from the forms, the presence of images on the stone and the size of the cross itself.

A cruel legend is associated with the cross in Goloshevo, even by the standards of Orthodoxy. So one day Jesus, in the form of a beggar traveler, decided to spend the night in these parts, but the locals did not want to let him in and drove him out of their land. Only one woman stood up for the poor man, who gave him shelter. In the morning, the time of reckoning came and Jesus decided to flood this sinful village as a punishment. He gave the opportunity to escape only to the woman who helped him, but decided to follow him without looking back, no matter what happened. As is often the case in such legends, the girl looked back and immediately, spreading her arms, turned into a stone, which now stands on the edge of the village.

Over time, he was even given a rather rude name - “Baba”.

There is information that there was another cross nearby, but smaller, but it disappeared before the war.

Partially preserved in Goloshevo manor Tyundevitsky, and closer to the M1 highway you can see an interesting industrial facility - a water tower designed by engineer Shukhov.
