House of Merchant Katsnelson - one of the brightest attractions of Bobruisk. It belonged to a successful "business lady" Pai-Brina Katznelson. There is a legend that she drew attention to him when she traveled around the Baltics. The woman liked the building very much, and she decided to buy it and move it to Bobruisk. So in 1912, a beautiful one-story Art Nouveau building with carved windows, unusual decor, towers and an attic appeared in the city.
Apparently the building was dismantled and already transported in parts. Is it possible? Quite. According to information on the Internet, Ms. Katsnelson was prosperous and did not need money, so she could afford to carry out such laborious work.
The merchant's house is located on one of the central streets of Bobruisk - International, 25. The place is very popular with both tourists and locals. The building is currently closed and in need of renovation.
History and what was the Unusual House in Bobruisk used for?
Paya-Braina Katznelson herself did not live in the house, but used it for profit - she rented it out. This practice was very common among wealthy citizens. According to rumors, one of the merchant's clients was the police department.
And after the revolution, since 1918, the county revolutionary committee was located here. Even a commemorative plaque, which was installed in 1958, has been preserved.
Later, merchants in Bobruisk adapted the house for the central city library. named after Gorky. The library worked until 2014.
The building, like the whole of Bobruisk, has a huge tourist potential. It remains to be hoped that at some point it will be developed and used.
If you're in the area, be sure to visit Bobruisk fortress и barracks, as well as another unusual house - “Port arthur".
An interesting story, especially with the transportation of the house, if this is true, then the merchant's wife was not a bastard of a shield)
