In the historical center Vitebsk, in 2009, was rebuilt Resurrection Church. The architects tried to recreate the temple of 1772, which was located in the same place.
The original version of the temple of the 18th century was made in architecture Vilna Baroque. There are suggestions that the construction was carried out under the direction of Christoph Glaubitz, - a bright representative of the Vilna baroque. It was he who was the architect of the neighboring town hall and the famous Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk.
The old Uniate church, which, according to rumors, even Napoleon spared, was blown up by the Soviet authorities in the winter of 1936. It is horrifying that the reason for the destruction of the architectural monument was its location (this is official). After the collapse of the USSR, a decision is made to restore the church. Work began in 2005. Today the temple is functioning, Orthodox, open to all comers.
