Ruzhany - it's not only Sapieha Palace, there are other interesting sights in the urban village. Among which stands out the building of the former Basilian monastery and Peter and Paul Church.
The stone temple was originally built as a Uniate one, and the work stretched from 1762 to 1778. The appearance of the building is the merit of the architect Jan Samuel Becker, favorite and chief engineer of Sapieha. In 1781, the church in Ruzhany was consecrated in honor of the Apostles Peter and Paul.
In 1834, the mission of the Order of the Basilians was liquidated, and a little later the Uniate Church was transferred to Orthodoxy. Of the entire monastery, only the residential building has been preserved, which was reconstructed not so long ago.
After a fire at the end of the 19th century, the center of Ruzhany burned out badly, including the church. The temple was restored, while partially changing the original appearance.
The church in Ruzhany has an interesting and complex facade with an abundance of pilasters, cornices, baroque elements. The temple ends with a high belfry tower.
In Soviet times, the building housed a hospital, then a prison, and then a training base for tourists. In the 90s, the temple was returned to believers. The Ruzhany church is one of the oldest in the Pruzhany region. It is located in the historical center, on September 17 Square, opposite from Trinity Church, below is a point with a mark on the map:
Not far from Ruzhany you can see a unique Kossovo Palace of the Puslovskys.
