On the way from Smorgon to Krevo, you should pay attention to ruin in the town Novospassk. These ruins were once an ancient church - first Uniate, then Orthodox, and perhaps for some time a church. The church was built in the second half of the 18th century on the initiative of the monks of the Basilian order and the financial support of the nobleman Bukatago. Initially church in Novospassk (in many sources Sutkovo) was Uniate, however, like many churches of that time.

The construction of the church was extremely long and hard, it took about 35 years. The architecture of the temple surprised with its atypicality. Even the foundation was laid not of stone, but of the same red brick as the walls.

The Uniate temple in Novospassk did not remain long. After the last partition of the Commonwealth, Uniatism on the territory of modern Belarus was rapidly losing its positions. So already in the first half of the 19th century the building was used as an Orthodox church. Probably at the same time it was partially rebuilt according to the traditions of Orthodoxy and re-consecrated.

The Orthodox Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior remained until the outbreak of the First World War. Even before the hostilities, there were talks of converting the temple into a church, but history decreed otherwise. The front line passed near the place where the temple actually stands. In addition, the church is located on a hill, so it is not surprising that the “wounds” from bullets and shells were serious. By 1917 the building was completely destroyed.

After the end of the war, Novospassk was part of the Interwar Poland and the question of building a church again arose, but the locals did not accept this idea with great enthusiasm. They did not begin to allocate money for the restoration of the Orthodox church. Therefore, in the end, we decided to leave the issue of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior until better times, which, as it is now clear, did not come.

Over time, the building fell into even more decay, and the bricks began to be taken away for the construction of other, as they considered, more important objects. All that remains of the church can be seen in the photo.

Of course, such a place simply could not have its own village legend with wealth and a ghost. So there were rumors that a huge treasure was immured in the walls by Pan Bukaty himself during the construction of the temple. Thus, he “set aside” an impressive amount for the future restoration of the church (they supposedly had a presentiment that they would destroy it). And everyone who is looking for a treasure without a good purpose will only meet the ghost of an evil pan guarding his wealth.

Apparently, the treasure was found a long time ago and spent on other purposes, the ghost did not save. In 2000, a small church was built next to the ruins, visible in the photo below:

It will not be difficult to find the ruins, they are clearly visible from the road, and below is a point with a mark on the map:
