In the city of Chechersk, Gomel region, you can see a rather atypical Belarus Orthodox church located at the roundabout. Transfiguration Church was built at the end of the 18th century, on the site of a wooden predecessor, on the initiative of the then owner Chechersk - Count Zakhary Chernyshev.

This church may have been built one of the first after the division of the Commonwealth in 1772.

The exact date of construction is unknown, but there are 2 main versions. According to the first, the temple was finished in 1779 year designed by the Italian architect Giacomo Quarenghi. According to another, the church was built in 1783 year by the French architect Francesco Rastrelli.

The unusual architecture of the church will definitely surprise you. The temple is a rotunda with a porch belfry. The building has clearly defined two tiers and ends with a massive wooden dome. The walls are decorated with false columns, niches, pilasters and cornices. Square windows that complement the classical architecture also look interesting.

Early 20th century Chechersk church arrived in a rather neglected form, and services were mainly conducted in another church - on Zamkova Street (not preserved). However, by coincidence, only this building of all the religious buildings of the city survived.

Another unusual fact in the history of the temple is that, according to the inventories, it was returned to believers already in 1946 year. In fact, until 1953 the building was used as a warehouse for grain.

In the early 2000s, the main Orthodox church in Chechersk was renovated, the church is operational and is open during services on Saturdays and Sundays.
