In the historical center Mstislavl there are several architectural monuments, one of which is Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. It is believed that the temple was built on the site of a Bernardine monastery founded in 1727. However, the existing church appeared much later - in 1870. The architecture of the new stone temple is eclectic and looks quite interesting.

The dominant place in the architecture of the church is occupied by a massive 8-sided drum, completed with an onion dome. The same dome, but smaller, has a belfry tower.

An interesting part of the cathedral is the three-arch gate, supplemented by a gatehouse (built in 1895).

In wartime, German soldiers were buried in the cemetery of the church. However, after the war, the crosses were removed and no evidence of these burials was preserved.

An interesting fact: the Church of Alexander Nevsky is one of the tallest buildings in the city of Mstislavl. Across the road from the temple you can see the old men's gymnasium, and a little further - Church of St. Michael the Archangel.
